Introduction
Duve introduced a new capability to address VAT and sales tax requirements on the Room Upgrade upsell. This feature allows hosts to offer room upgrades tailored to guests from different countries, ensuring compliance with local tax laws and enhancing the transparency of payments.
Overview
This new feature enables hosts to include multiple VAT and sales tax additions specifically for Room Upgrades. This capability is particularly important for regions like Israel, USA & Prague, where presenting VAT amounts separately is legally required. The initial phase focuses on room upgrades, with potential future expansions to other upsell areas.
How to Set It Up
- Accessing the Room Upgrade Page:
- Navigate to the Room Upgrade upsell section within Duve's platform.
- Create a new "Tax Surcharge."
- Select an option from the dropdown "Tax Label":
- VAT
- Tax
- Tourist Tax
- City Tax
- Sales Tax
- Setting Conditions:
- Hosts can add a condition for displaying the tax additions, for example, the "Guest Country" condition.
The guests will see a detailed breakdown of the room upgrade price and the associated VAT when accessing the Room Upgrade upsell from either the Online Check-In (OCI) or the Guest App.
The payment breakdown will be displayed similarly for both the "Add to hotel bill" and "Pay by credit card" methods.
Important note: The "Tax Surcharge" is available only for percentage addition and not a fixed price amount.
Use Cases
Handling Discounts
- In scenarios with multiple discounts, Duve will display the highest discount first, then apply the new tax additions, ending with the VAT calculation.
Tips and Tricks
- Set Accurate Conditions: Utilize the condition tab effectively to target the correct guest profiles based on their country or reservation status.
- 2 Different Scenarios: The feature will be shown through both Online Check-In and the Guest App to ensure consistency and accuracy in the tax breakdown display.
- Multi-Tax Scenarios:
- For guests in regions with multiple taxes, such as VAT, city tax, and sales tax, Duve will calculate each tax sequentially. For example, a room upgrade priced at $100 with a 17% VAT will show $117, and a subsequent 10% city tax will apply to the $117 total, making the final price $128.70.
- Israeli Hotels:
- Hotels in Israel can now comply with local laws by displaying the VAT separately during the online check-in process, ensuring guests are fully informed about the tax price of their room upgrade.
- Tailored Upsell Offers:
- Hosts can tailor room upgrade offers based on the guest's country, showing specific tax breakdowns relevant to each region, thus enhancing guest satisfaction and compliance.
