Duve's translation engine helps you reach guests in their own language, but automatic translations don’t always get it right—especially when it comes to brand names, restaurant titles, or property-specific terms.
To help hosts maintain brand consistency and avoid mistranslations, Duve now allows you to exclude specific words or phrases from translation, or even set custom translations per language.
✨ What is the “Exclude Words” Feature?
This feature allows you to:
Add specific words or phrases to a “Do Not Translate” list.
Ensure guest-facing content always keeps the original form of these words.
Optionally, define custom translations per language.
Applied All guest content: Chat, Upsells, Guest App Posts, Online Check-in.
How to Set it Up?
Go to Settings > General > Content Translations
Open the new section: “Exclude & Custom Translate”
➕ How to Add a Word to the Exclusion List
Type the word or phrase in the input field (3+ characters).
Click “Add”
The word will be:
Added to the list
Automatically excluded from auto-translation
Replaced in existing content with its original (non-translated) version
⚠️ You cannot add a word that already exists in the list, or is less than 3 characters.
✏️ Managing Words: Edit, Delete, or Add Custom Translations
Click the three-dot menu next to any word on the list to:
1. Delete
Remove the word from the exclusion list. → The system will revert to auto-translating that word in all content.
2. Edit
Update the word or phrase (e.g., change “Vertigo” to “Vertigo Bar”). → This will update the word across all guest-facing content.
3. Add Custom Translation
Click 'Add Custom translation' to add definitions for specific languages.

🔁 What Happens Behind the Scenes?
When a word is added: Duve automatically scans existing content and reverts the word to its original version in every language.
When a word is deleted: Duve re-enables automatic translation for it.
When a custom translation is added: That translation overrides the auto-translation for that language only.

Q: Can I add multiple words or phrases at once?
A: Not yet. You must add them one at a time.
Q: Can I exclude short words like “at” or “it”?
A: No, the system only accepts words with 3 or more characters.
